Crop tops are an integral part of the SS’14 trends and whether we like it or not, they’re here to stay. They’ve been in style for almost two seasons now and with more and more celebrities picking it up for both casual as well as red carpet sightings, it’s proving to be a trend almost impossible to turn a blind eye to.
The best part about crop tops these days is you don’t have to have washboard abs to sport them. In fact, navel baring tops are being increasingly considered downright tacky and outdated. Whether you are skinny, curvy or plus size, crop tops is one trend you can sport with style and elan!
Here are some tips for how you can make a crop top work for you whatever your body shape: -Make sure the top hits right at the vertical center of your rib-cage. This is supposed to be the thinnest part of a woman’s body and makes for a very flattering silhouette.
-How much to bare? Well, this is a question you need to answer for yourself but anything above 2 inches is a no-no. And if you are a prude (like me?), the lesser the better. However remember to avoid navel baring tops like the plague!
-Always pair crop tops with high-waisted bottoms for an effortlessly chic look. Wear it with a slightly flared midi or a pencil skirt for the best effect, especially if you are curvaceous. If you are plus-sized, try full flare midi and maxi skirts and if you are skinny anything goes- palazzo pants, shorts or even jeans but make sure they are high waisted.
-If you are not comfortable with even the minimally bare midriff, pair your top with a shrug or layer it with a transparent top.
-Accessorize it right. Wear long neck pieces to accentuate the midriff and heels/flats depending on whether its a formal or casual look.
-Don’t want to invest in a crop top? Worry not, just use your classic button down shirt by leaving the last couple of buttons undone and knotting it up on your waist.
Hope the tips are useful. Let me reiterate the fact that no matter what shape or size you are-Crop top is one look you can definitely rock!
I decided to sport the look last weekend. I tried a monochrome attire with a necklace that was in stark contrast to the rest of the scheme. All the clothing pieces are mixed and matched and that’s why you may either find it totally obnoxious or very cute. I am hoping it’s the latter!
Almost all brands and stores have crop tops in their latest collection, however, your best bet at finding something you’ll like in Ahmedabad is at Young Trukk. They have an awesome in store collection and the off chance you don’t like anything or want a particular size, they can custom make it for you. Their prices will suit your pocket whether you are a student or an heiress :). My suggestion, check them out before you zero in on a crop top.
Make sure wherever you pick your top from it hits the vertical center of your rib cage for the best effect. Will await your lovely messages as always!
Stay Gorgeous xx
