A “good” married woman wears sarees. You should wear sarees “decently”. Sarees worn “properly” add to the aura of a woman. How often have you heard these clichés and rolled your eyes and in some cases laughed (out loud!)?
If I had to dance the night out in a baraat or spend the day at a formal event- saree may not be my first choice. Only because I’ve always believed that sarees are worn with high heels and expensive jewelry and heavy blouses. I decided to break my own misconceptions and those I’ve been hearing all my life via this outfit. Hope you like it as much as I do.
This shoot is particularly close to my heart because of how I let go of every hang up I had about sarees- it’s ok if it’s tied carelessly, it’s ok if my hair is messy and it’s ok if I replace high heels with Oxfords. After all, what good are rules if they don’t get broken every now and then. What mattered was my attitude and Oh My God it was so on point!
I had a lot of fun doing the shoot- letting go completely. I can safely say that sarees are the most fun item of clothing :). And that denim crop top- I had so much fun “mis-matching” it with the ensemble.
