By JB and Maitri Patel (Team CB)
The very awesome and supremely tall Kunal Kapoor was in Aapnu Ahmedabad a couple of weeks ago and CB was invited to be a part of his press conference. (Ofcourse, we managed to do a quick one-on-one with him about fashion, style and the like!). KK was in Ahmedabad to talk about Ketto (stands for Key to Tomorrow)- a crowd sourcing platform that he’s co-founded. Here are a few questions we managed to ask him because we were mostly simpering with him dazzling his million dollar smile 🙂
MP: Please tell our readers about crowdfunding?
KK: So, crowdfunding is the new way of funding a project or a venture by raising monetary contributions from a large number of people via the internet. The central idea is to provide a platform to help the people who have innovative and creative ideas or great products or even services but lack the funds to back their project with by asking a large crowd of people each for a small amount of money. All that the ones seeking funds are required to do is set up a profile of their project on the fund raiser’s website to raise the funds.
JB: Why Ketto? (Apart from the fact that it’s your company! <fangirl moment!>
KK: Most crowdfunding platforms would offer two types of funding. The one’s which involves sharing equity in the project or debt investors get their money back with interest earned on it). That is where Ketto stands out. It is a reward based funding which means that people invest simply because they have faith in the project. Rewards that the investors get could be in the form of acknowledgements, regular news updates, free gifts, tickets to the event and so on. These returns are considered intangible. The motivation behind the reason for putting their money and expect nothing back could be social or personal. As a cherry on the cake, starting a campaign on Ketto is absolutely FREE! with no attached penalty if the project does not raise the total amount, the amount of funds raised will still get disbursed.
MP: What made you take up crowd funding?
KK: Crowd funding is not a new concept. We’ve all done it unknowingly in our lives. I crowd funded my first venture at 12! One of our friends in our cricket team in my building was the son of our watchman and couldn’t afford his school fees. All of us in the team got together and raised Rs. 2000 for him and saved him from expulsion.
JB: Ok Kunal not that the technical talk is not fun (I did zone out for a second when he beamed at me 🙂 )….since we are a fashion blog, my readers are going to kill me if I don’t ask you this- What is your idea of style/fashion?
KK: I am high on comfort. So even if it is latest fashion or something really cool or much in vogue, if it’s not comfortable, I will not wear it. That’s why you see me in jeans all the time! Also, your outfit should express your individuality.
MP: What attracts you in a girl? (we know you are married now <heart-break>)
KK: Bikinis! <hahahaha>. Ok, so what I find really attractive in women is when they are not over-dressed. So, even something as casual as a pair of jeans and a tee can be really sexy. Also, women who don’t wear a lot of makeup. You know girls who are more real and natural.
And that was that. Did we mention his dimples!
JB: When do we see you on the silver screen again?
KK: I have taken a small break after Kaun Kitne Paani Mein to work on a script which I am writing myself. I also have a couple of movies lined up which will start shooting by the end of the year.
Hope you liked our slightly rushed but fun chat with Kunal Kapoor. We hope to have him soon again, this time for a longer chit-chat. Till then-
Stay Gorgeous xx
