I am the laziest person around. And so, if I have managed to workout religiously for the last couple of months – it is nothing short of a small miracle. I keep posting my shenanigans on insta-stories and Instagram and you’ve been more than kind to keep my spirits high! I have also been getting a lot of messages on how do I keep myself “motivated”. There is no mantra- just the simple realization that I am not getting any younger.
Fitness is not an option any more- especially with the busy lifestyles we lead. So, I’ve been pushing myself harder and harder. It is no more about losing a few kgs- I have no weight goals to beat, no BMIs to achieve. I have stopped obsessing about my weight or love handles or the spare tyre. My sore body sleeps better and I can go about my crazy day happier. Sharing some tips that work for me. Here goes:
Get a trainer. This keeps you motivated. I have realized that over the years my best workout days have been with a trainer. They really make me push my boundaries. Those excruciating sets of lunges or squats would never complete if it wasn’t for my very strict trainers. However, if you find that expensive, working out in a group may be a cheaper alternate.
Never miss a workout day. It may have been an especially stressful day at work or you’re just too tired to get up early- do not miss your workout. Shave off a few minutes but make sure there is no break (not counting your rest days). I have always fallen off the wagon after a mere day or two off.
Try to decrease your dependence on machines and equipment. I prefer running on open roads and my HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) consists largely of intense floor exercises, Burpees, Jumping Jacks etc. This makes sure that you can work out even if you’re travelling, have no access to a gym and even the weather cannot play spoil sport.
DIET. I have my moments- I binge eat sometimes and enjoy my glass(es) of wine a little too much. But all said and done- you are what you eat. So, go back to eating cleaner as soon as your cheat day is over. Exercising does not mean you have an “all you can eat” pass. I do not mean starving yourself ofcourse- just be mindful of what goes in your tummies. This might help.
I use a “calorie tracker” app and it’s really helpful in letting me plan my day meal wise. (Please bear in mind that these apps are not very dependable and you use them only for reference purposes- for eg they do not take into account how big or small your chapatis are or that you don’t put oil in your sabjis).
Activity Trackers & Workout Gear. I am a proud Apple Watch user and track every workout with it. However, I think they sometimes add to your stress rather than help you with it. I start fretting if I haven’t achieved my stand goal by the middle of the day even if I started my day with a heavy workout. Use a tracker by all means but just remember they are there to aid you with your fitness regime not own it.
If there ever was motivation to workout for a fashion enthusiast- stylish workout gear would be it :).Here are a few tips to selecting your workout gear.
PS: I have been using these pants and tank top from Silvertraq for my workouts. The collection is affordable and their mesh designs are very stylish, breathable and anti-odour. Do check their collection out on FB, Insta and their estore.
